We need to face up to the fact that our idols hold us in bondage to themselves. Our idolatry not only deserves God’s judgment, but it holds us back from the spiritual freedom that is only found in wholehearted devotion to Him.

Today’s chapter deals with the destruction of the great city Babylon and brings together numerous prophecies from the Old Testament. The encouragement for God’s people is that they should all leave the city. We’ll see what that means for us today.

The Bible makes a clear distinction between true and false religion. Jesus calls Himself “the truth” and calls the devil “the father of lies.” This chapter looks forward to the climax of all false beliefs in the form of “Mystery Babylon.”
