We are about to witness the pouring out of the Seven Bowls, the final set of judgments. In Chapter 6, the martyred saints asked “How long?” before God would avenge their blood. In today’s chapters the final answer to their question is given.

Back in the Old Testament, in Daniel 9:27, we first observed that a coming prince will make a seven-year agreement with the nation of Israel, perhaps among others. In the middle of that “week” he will break his agreement with them. We are now at a spot in Revelation where we can begin to see how that “week” is divided.

In Chapter 7, we saw that despite the horrible judgments inflicted on a rebellious world, God had a people reserved for Himself. Here in Chapters 8 & 9, further judgments will be released, more serious than those previously seen. Judgment intensifies.

We left off at the end of Revelation 6 with a question, namely, “For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” (Rev 6:17) Today’s chapter will answer that question.
