A Prayer Prompted by John 10

Dear heavenly Father,

We receive your Son Jesus as our Shepherd.  We put our faith and total trust in him.

We believe that you sent him to lay down his life for us.  We receive that eternal life offered by your grace. Let us never waver from that commitment.  Let no one ever remove us from your hand.

In Christ, Amen.

A Prayer Prompted by John 9

Dear Father in heaven,

Thanks to Jesus the light of the world, we can say with the blind man that we were once blind but now we see. We thank you for opening our eyes to the truth that Jesus is the Son of God, the Son of Man and the Savior that we need.

Help us to hold on tightly to that faith, knowing that in a world full of trials, troubles and temptations, Jesus is our only hope.

And let us serve you with good works, the very kind that you have planned for us, so that we can carry out our mission as lights in this dark and dying world.

In Christ,

Amen

A Prayer Prompted by John 8

Heavenly Father,

Help us to take an attitude toward sin and toward sinners much like the one that Jesus had.  Help us to demand repentance in ourselves, earnestly desire it in others, but help us to avoid condemning them, knowing that we ourselves have sinned.

Cause us to always see Christ as the light of the world, so that we might walk in that light and not walk in darkness ever again. Make us Christ’s true disciples, people who would abide in your word and let your word abide in us.  Let that word transform us and help us to grow.

Since we know and understand that Jesus is truly God, we worship him, Father, even as we worship you.

We know that people’s eternity hangs in the balance and is decided on their response to Christ. Make us useful in the proclamation of the gospel, in calling children of the devil out of darkness, out of the bondage and slavery of sin, and into freedom, into the bright, clear vision of your marvelous light.

In Christ,

Amen

A Prayer Prompted by John 7

Dear God and Father,

We know that what you say is true and that in fact Jesus is the truth, which you sent to this earth. When he speaks of our sin he always speaks correctly. Help us to accept that we continuously need your grace and the forgiveness you offer through Christ.

Help us also to avoid any kind of spiritual elitism. In other words, help us to avoid any kind of thinking that we are too good or too smart to need a simple, childlike faith in Christ to be saved.

Finally, please give us those rivers of living water that Christ said would flow from within us thanks to the work of your Holy Spirit.

In Jesus Christ,

Amen
