We need to face up to the fact that our idols hold us in bondage to themselves. Our idolatry not only deserves God’s judgment, but it holds us back from the spiritual freedom that is only found in wholehearted devotion to Him.

Moses had been raising sheep in the wilderness for 40 years when God appeared to him in a burning bush at Mt. Horeb. It was time to go back to Egypt and bring Israel out.

At this point in the story John gives us a glimpse – a sneak preview – of what lies ahead. We’ll see how everyone will ultimately have to choose sides. Everyone.
