The Old Testament has a few markers or mountain peeks that help us in understanding the entire message, big story or metanarrative of the Bible. One of them is 2 Samuel 7. This chapter points us back to Abraham, forward to Jesus, and declares that David’s throne and dynasty will be eternal.

Back in the Old Testament, in Daniel 9:27, we first observed that a coming prince will make a seven-year agreement with the nation of Israel, perhaps among others. In the middle of that “week” he will break his agreement with them. We are now at a spot in Revelation where we can begin to see how that “week” is divided.

We live in a society that values individualism and independence. We live in an age that is perhaps the most individualistic ever. For God’s children, independence is not the ideal toward which we strive. When Christians grow properly, they don’t grow alone.
