The moral standards of the world we live in are not exceedingly high.  The standards of the Bible are clearly much more rigid than the standards of the world.  How are we to respond as a church when standards are blatantly violated? In this chapter Paul begins to deal with the some of the flagrant sexual sin in Corinth and offers some helpful counsel for those times when sexual sin begins to corrupt the church.

The Corinthian church was problematic for Paul.  In Chapter 1-4 he addresses their first problem: divisions within the church.  The underlying issue was the immaturity of the Corinthian believers.  In Chapter 4 Paul provides a corrective: Christians mature in their faith when they gain a proper view of Christian service.

What is the relationship between faith and reason? God expects us to believe – to have faith – but does that mean as Christians we become a bunch of mindless airheads? Paul was obviously pretty smart; think back on the book of Romans. But can it be possible that only the smartest people can become truly godly? This chapter will help us to balance the heart and the mind.
